Certified Athletic Trainers are an integral component of LOC's overall commitment to serve our communities. These Athletic Trainers serve many athletes in Lincoln and surrounding communities. The role of the certified athletic trainer is to assure that athletes compete in a healthy environment, train athletes in sports injury prevention, assist with post-injury rehabilitation and reconditioning.
To become and Athletic Trainer in sports medicine and individual must earn, at a minimum, a Bachelors Degree. In addition, these individuals must obtain licensing from the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. There is also continued education and testing requirements in order to maintain a license.
Athletic Trainers work closely with LOC Physicians to optimize activity and particpation of our sports medicine patients.
LOC's sports medicine outreach is a collaborative effort with Bryan Health. Athletic Trainers are placed in communities and sports organizations who were under-served or have not had access to the expertise of an Athletic Trainer.
Dr. Douglas Tewes is the Medical Director for the sports medicine outreach.
